Android is an open-source mobile operating system developed primarily for touch-screen mobile phones and tablets, based on a modified version of the Linux kernel and various open-source software. As the name suggests, it is developed by Google Inc. and has become a very popular OS among mobile users because of its wide support.
So, how does an average user install an Android application on his phone? There are many places to go to download an Android application for your phone. You can either download the applications directly from the website (and you would be required to sign up with Google, which is one of the main service providers of Android), or you can go in search of Android applications through Google’s Play store. This option would require you to enter your phone’s phone number, or if you have Google Fi installed, you would need to insert your phone number into the corresponding Google Maps interface, and then look for an Android application that would suit your needs.
After you have found your favorite Android app, you should be able to install it by selecting “install” and then following the steps on screen. It will ask you to give your contact details, and that’s it! After that, you will be able to use your Android phone with the help of your chosen applications.
Certain applications are developed specifically for the iPhone and the iPad, while some are developed for specific devices like the Kindle and the Samsung Galaxy S II. While some apps may work on any smartphone or tablet, there are also specific ones that are designed to work on specific devices. You will therefore need to check the specifications of your smartphone or tablet to find out which app you would like to install, before actually installing it.
The advantage of downloading applications through Google’s Play store is that most apps are free of cost, and they come ready with a variety of different features and tools, including application development tools. In addition to this, if you want to modify an existing application, you can do so using the Android SDK, or Android Developer Kit. There are several examples of apps that you can look at online, but the best ones are those that are written in Java and written with the Android SDK.
If you want to get an app that works only on the Android platform, you will have to go for Android Market, which is a popular web-based marketplace for both Android devices and for mobile devices. Most of these marketplaces have their own dedicated Android category where you can find hundreds of apps available. However, there is no central Android Store, and you may not have access to all of them.
Most of the Android apps that you can download or use on your smartphone or tablet can also be downloaded and used on your laptop, where they may also work as virtual keyboards. This is a great way to enjoy your phone without being tied to it. Some apps will even let you connect it to your laptop so that you can enjoy your music player, email and send text messages.
For most of us, the biggest disadvantage of installing apps on our smartphone or tablet is that we do not get to control them with the same ease as if we were using it for our computer. Although many people prefer to use their smartphone or tablet as a personal tool, and we use it for chatting, browsing, reading books, playing games and so on, many of us also use it for accessing the internet, taking photos and surfing the net. If you want to take a call, listening to music and surfing the net, you can use an application like Skype or Google Talk.
